I'm happy to report that the quilt is now finished and ready for delivery!
I really shouldn't be the one bragging about this, because I really did the least of the "work." My contribution included providing many of the red scraps that make up the nine-patch sheepfold blocks and sewing my quota of those blocks plus a few extra. I also very happily participated in the efficient assembly line sewing to create this quilt top.
So here's the finished quilt:
It's a twin bed size and you can probably zoom in to see some detail, but I have some close ups for you, too.
Alice, in addition to all the above, selected and cut all the neutral fabric that makes up the "open" squares (set on point) and border. She also hand stitched all the binding and made the label. And she took these "publicity" photos for us!
Cheryl donated many of the neutral scraps, some of the reds, did her share of sheepfold block construction, was foreman of our assembly crew... and did the magnificent heirloom quilting that turns this rather ordinary top into something spectacular.
I'm so very proud to be part of this collaboration. Alice reminded me that this is the 5th year we have contributed a quilt. The quilt will be raffled during the summer season of Saturday Shindigs and will bring in several hundred dollars to support the work of the Folk Heritage Committee which this year will be putting on the 49th annual free Shindig series and the 88th annual Mountain Dance and Folk Festival in August. (www.folkheritage.org for more information.)
So, on June 27th, "along about sundown," maybe I'll see you there!
